Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave were a dynamic pass-catching duo during their time as teammates at Ohio State.
Both caught footballs routinely while wearing the Buckeyes’ scarlet and gray uniforms. They impacted the Buckeyes’ passing game in such a significant way that Ohio State’s offense remained one of college football’s most prolific passing attacks during their stint running routes together inside The Shoe in Columbus. Their productivity earned them All-American recognition and got them rated among the top wide receivers looking to have their names called by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell during the 2022 NFL Draft on April 28-30.
Both are projected as possible first-round draft picks, and either one could become the first pass catcher drafted out of a deep and talented wide receiver class.
DraftKings has odds of +100 and FanDuel has odds of +115 on Wilson being the first wide receiver selected. DraftKings has odds of 12/1 and FanDuel has odds of 30/1 on Olave being the first wide receiver chosen, which rank as the fifth-best odds among the pass-catching group.
Sizing up the competition
DraftKings has odds of +175 and FanDuel has odds of +145 on USC’s Drake London, which rank second to Wilson. FanDuel also has odds of +850 on Alabama’s Jameson Williams and odds of +900 on Arkansas’ Treylon Burks — ranking third and fourth best, respectively.
Penn State’s Jahan Dotson (+7500), North Dakota State’s Christian Watson (+7500), Baylor’s Tyquan Thornton (+10000), and Western Michigan’s Skyy Moore (+10000) round out FanDuel’s list of wide receivers that could become the first receiver selected in the draft.
Wilson and Olave are the only two on the list who were college teammates last fall. They were quite complementary on the field, combining for 1,994 receiving yards and 25 receiving touchdowns to help Ohio State average 380 passing yards and 46 points per game en route to an 11-2 record. The focus now is more on them as individuals, however, and not on their Buckeyes brotherhood.

The Wilson File
Wilson, at 6 feet, 183 pounds, pulled in 70 catches for 1,058 yards, including 12 TD receptions in 11 games last fall. He averaged 96.2 receiving yards per game, and a 77-yard touchdown catch against Michigan State proved to be the Buckeyes’ longest TD reception of the year. The All-American, who is known for having sure hands, tied for eighth in the nation with his 12 TD catches.
Wilson attended the NFL Draft Combine and received a Prospect Grade of 6.50, which is recognized in the Boom-Or-Bust Potential category, according to NFL.com. He participated in four of the seven physical exercise events.
He posted a time of 4.38 in the 40-yard dash, which ranked seventh fastest among the wide receivers. His time of 4.36 for the 20-yard shuttle was the seventh-fastest time.
Wilson’s 36 inches in the vertical jump tied for 11th with Penn State’s Jahan Dotson and South Alabama’s Jalen Tolbert. He recorded a jump of 10 feet, 3 inches in the broad jump, which tied for 18th with Tolbert.

The Olave File
Olave stands 6 feet and weighs 187 pounds. He recorded 65 catches for 936 yards, including a team-leading 13 TD receptions. His longest score went 61 yards. He averaged 78 receiving yards per game in 12 contests, earning him All-American recognition.
Olave, who proved dangerous as a deep threat, also attended the NFL Draft Combine, recording a Prospect Grade of 6.46, which is recognized in the Will Become Good Starter Within Two Years category.
He only participated in three of the seven events. He bolted to a time of 4.39 in the 40-yard dash, which ranked right behind Wilson and clocked in as the eighth-fastest time.
His 32 inches in the vertical jump ranked as the 11th-best effort. He recorded a jump of 10-4 in the broad jump, which also ranked 11th best.
