Ohio’s casinos/racinos hauled in nearly $18 million more in July than June, but last month’s combined revenue total of $206.7 million was slightly off from the $211.2 million in revenue for July 2021.
July represented the fourth straight month in which revenue declined compared to a year ago. Despite that year-over-year drop, July’s revenue figure was still a significant uptick compared to the July 2019 total of $162.2 million. The combined total for the casinos and racinos for the year is $1.38 billion in gambling revenue, narrowly ahead of the $1.36 billion brought in at this time last year.
Gambling revenue is the money that casinos and racinos keep after paying out winnings, but before state taxes and fees are taken into account.
The four casinos brought in a combined total of $88.7 million in July, compared to $90.5 million in July 2021, according to Ohio Casino Control Commission reports. Only Hard Rock Casino Cincinnati brought in more revenue in July 2022 ($22.1 million) than it did in July 2021 ($21.5 million). Hollywood Casino Toledo brought in $20.4 million in revenue last month, down 15% from the $24 million in revenue in July 2021.
JACK Cleveland Casino also accounted for less revenue for the month of July ($22.8 million) than it did a year earlier, when it brought in $23.6 million. Hollywood Casino Columbus tallied $23.2 million in revenue last month, compared to $24 million in July 2021.
Similar trend at racinos
The seven racinos also didn’t generate as much combined revenue in July 2022 ($118 million) as they did in July 2021 ($120.6 million), according to Ohio Lottery Commission reports. But it was a mixed bag in terms of individual properties.
MGM Northfield Park ($25.2 million), Scioto Downs Racino ($21.3 million), and Miami Valley Gaming ($20.5 million) brought in more revenue for the month compared to July 2021.
JACK Thistledown Racino ($15.7 million), Hollywood Mahooning Valley ($13.9 million), Belterra Park ($8.3 million), and Hollywood Dayton Racino ($12.7 million) each managed slightly less revenue than in July 2021.
